Llanuwchllyn 4 Penrhyncoch 1

Novira Cymru North

PENRHYNCOCH travelled to Penllyn on Saturday for a crucial clash between two sides battling near the foot of the table.

The hosts made a promising start and created several opportunities, but visiting keeper Leigh Jenkins produced a string of fine saves to keep the game scoreless.

After 15 minutes, however, Llanuwchllyn took the lead when Penrhyncoch defender Isaac Aldred inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

Despite continued pressure from the hosts, Penrhyncoch held firm and trailed by just one goal at the interval.

Given Llanuwchllyn's dominance in the first half, there was always a danger that Penrhyncoch would enjoy a stronger spell after the break and find a way back into the contest.

That proved to be the case when a long throw was not dealt with effectively by the home defence, allowing the alert Owain Evans to fire home the equaliser.

At 1-1, the game was finely balanced, but Llanuwchllyn regained control on the hour mark when a series of substitutions changed the momentum.

Dale Davies made his first appearance since rejoining the club, while winger Wil Owen also entered the fray.

The hosts soon restored their advantage through Gwydion Roberts before James Davies extended the lead to 3-1 after 70 minutes.

Gwydion Ifan then put the seal on an impressive victory with a late fourth goal, ensuring all three points stayed in Penllyn.

Llanuwchllyn now face a difficult trip to Newtown in the Welsh Cup on Saturday.
