LOUIS Robles scored a hat-trick as Bala Town capped a fine week with a comfortable 4-0 success against Newtown in the JD Cymru Premier at Maes Tegid.

Henry Jones had given the Lakesiders a 12th minute lead, before Robles took centre stage with goals on 39, 59 and 89 minutes, despite the hosts having Lassana Mendes sent-off on 65 minutes.

Playing with intent from the outset, Henry Jones pulled a low strike wide, before the Lakesiders opened the scoring 10 minutes later. Robles was fouled on the edge of the box and Henry Jones whipped the free-kick into the left hand side of the net to give the home team an early lead.

Newtown battled back into the game, with George Harry being deemed offside from Craig Williams’ through ball, before a free kick led to Niall Flint firing wide in a great chance for the visiting side. At the other end, Chris Venables headed over the crossbar from Andy Burns’ delivery, before Bala doubled their tally on 39 minutes.

A break down the right by Venables saw him power through and pick out an unmarked Robles, who connected brilliantly and lobbed the keeper from six yards.

Bala had a chance to make it three just before the interval as Henry Jones broke free, but he struck his effort just wide of the far post.

In worsening conditions, Newtown should have grabbed a goal back a minute after the break when a corner arrived to Williams, but Josh Tibbetts spectacularly tipped the goalbound strike over the bar.

Joe Kenton was also denied by Tibbetts when his close range chance was pushed around the post - but the visitors were reduced to 10 men on 52 minutes as Harry was sent off for an altercation with Tibbetts.

With a one man advantage, Bala took a hold of the match and within five minutes Jones’ cross flashed across the face of goal to Robles at the far post, and he blasted in his second goal of the night.

As the Lakesiders continued to press, Lassana Mendes placed a header just inches wide of the post from a Jones free kick, before Bala went down to 10 themselves when Mendes was shown a second yellow on the hour. Anthony Stephens saw a header pushed over the bar, whilst at the other Tibbetts kept out Sean McAllister’s powerful strike down the other end.

With three minutes left to play, Bala rounded off their evening with a fourth goal.

Steve Leslie’s teasing ball from the left hit the base of the post and fell to Robles, who poked home from three yards to complete his well-taken hat-trick - and Bala’s 150th win in the top flight.
