COSTCUTTER Ceredigion League leaders Lampeter Town were glad to see the month of March end after a run of frustrating results, and their win in midweek will have come as a huge relief.
A 3-1 success over a weakened Llandysul side in extremely heavy conditions last Wednesday put paid to any real hopes the Swallows had of regaining their title.
It was Llandysul who opened the scoring when Chris Harries slipped his marker and poked the ball across the line, and the Swallows had further opportunities to double their lead.
Two late goals from top scorer Jason Jones and one from midfield playmaker Marc Evans, however, proved sufficient to see Terry Jones and his team through for the three points.
"I am just glad to see the back of March as it was a bad one for us," said Jones, who was relieved to have seen his side end a disappointing run of four successive defeats.
"We’re very happy with the win, especially for the players who have worked hard for us all season. We just have to concentrate on what we do from now on and let others fight it out.”
Just a few days later, the Swallows fought out another top of the table battle in the mud as they were held to a 1-1 draw at the School Field by second-placed St Dogmaels.
They were though lucky to come away with a point as keeper Jon Durbridge pulled of some wonder saves, with one stop from a Louis Harding shot absolutely brilliant.
Saints took the lead playing up the slope after 10 minutes when midfielder Adam Williams netted, but the hosts hit back when Scott Jones set up Carwyn Morgan for a shot that flew in.
The Saints enjoyed a host of chances later in the game, but the heroics of Durbridge and his back four saved the day.
The draw means that the Saints are five points adrift of Lampeter, with the same number of games played, whilst Llandysul are seven points behind the in third.
Newcastle Emlyn are still well in the race for the championship, 12 points adrift, with four games in hand.
In the Cwpan Ceredigion, Newcastle Emlyn kept their winning run going as they cantered through into the latter stages with a 5-1 success over Felinfach.
Owain Thomas and his men remain on course for a clean sweep of trophies as they have already secured the Emrys Morgan cup, and play in the final of the League Cup a week on Saturday.
Two goals apiece for Jake Kelly and Ashley Summers and one from Dion Phillips saw Emlyn across the line with plenty to spare.
