LLANDYSUL have appointed Gwynfor Edwards as their manager for the new Costcutter Ceredigion League division one campaign after former boss Chris Davies left to join Carmarthen Stars.
Edwards’ playing career was a short one due to work commitments, but he has good knowledge on the coaching front.
Last season, the 35-year-old, who lives in Llanelli, was head coach at Pontarddulais Town in the Carmarthenshire League and was also a coach in the Academy at Welsh League division one club Llanelli Town.
He also had a successful spell as head coach of Kidwelly Town.
“I am very impressed with the set-up at Llandysul, there is huge potential,” he said. “I will have a look at what is needed, and everyone will be given a chance.
“I’m looking forward to the season and hopefully we can win some silverware.”
Llandysul have arranged a number of pre-season friendlies, including games against Llanelli and Mid Wales League club Bow Street, and training sessions at Llandysul Park are at 2pm on Sundays.
The Swallows were winners of the Emrys Morgan Cup and Costcutter Ceredifion League championship two seasons ago, but finished fourth in division one last season after several key players left the club, and they were runners-up in the League Cup Final to Newcastle Emlyn.
Chris ‘Coco’ Davies has left the club to join Carmarthen Stars in the Carmarthenshire League Premier Division after a very successful spell as manager of Llandysul.
As a player, he represented various clubs across west Wales and played in the same side as ex-Wales and Aston Villa defender Mark Delaney at Goodwick United.
He spent three seasons in charge of Llandysul, guiding them to their first Costcutter title in nearly 70 years in 2017, and also lifted the Emrys Morgan Cup, Bay Cup and Eddie Merry Trophy.
