LLANDYSUL came within a minute of losing their unbeaten record in the Costcutter Ceredigion League on Boxing Day, until Scott Thomas levelled matters to secure a 3-3 draw at Lampeter Town.
Swallows boss Chris Davies brought both Terry Maynard and Adrian Hazelby into the starting line-up following injuries, and they combined to put the visitors ahead, with Hazelby netting with a great finish into the bottom corner of the net.
Lampeter kept the ball far better than their opponents in the greasy conditions, and they levelled when Sion Price upended Gethin Davies, and Terry Witts duly converted the penalty to level the scores.
Midfielder Davies then latched onto a long punt over the top from Arwel Thomas to volley through the legs of keeper John Durbridge to put Lampeter in front.
Llandysul had an effort disallowed, but just on the stroke of half time a long ball out of defence fell to Hazelby, and he fed Simon Davies to run in and make it 2-2.
In the second half Scott Davies played in Luke Lovell, who lifted the ball over a defender for Gethin Hunter to run on and calmly fire his side back into the lead.
Lampeter’s Szymon Konwiak and Robert Slawkowski also went close, but Llandysul stepped up their pressure and with time almost up Hazelby’s free kick was parried and Scott Thomas tapped the ball into an empty net to make it 3-3.
Cardigan Town meanwhile took the festive honours as they notched a 4-1 win in their derby against rivals St Dogmaels.
Team captain Iestyn Evans opened their account with a belter of a shot from well outside the penalty box, but the Saints hit back when Marcus Dean headed home.
The Magpies regained the lead when Evans fired home from the penalty spot, and then two goals in quick succession just after the break secured the points.
A brilliant header from Tomos Toft and a superb strike from the edge of the penalty box by Ewan Jones secured the win.
Rhys Jones had a chance to reduce the deficit late on but his poorly struck penalty was saved by keeper Carl Woodhouse.
Crannog notched a comfortable 6-0 win over Cilgerran, but they were forced to battle hard throughout the first half.
A superb free kick by midfielder Chris Welch opened the scoring, and Mike Glover steered a corner into the path of Rhydian Roberts to double their lead.
Top scorer George Colven extended that lead with a neat finish, following an outstanding through ball by Rhys Davies, who then also set up Gary Davies for 4-0.
Colven added his second with a great run and finish from the edge of the penalty box and in the last few minutes skipper Glover thumped in a header from a Rhys Davies corner to make the score 6-0.
Newcastle Emlyn carved out a 3-0 lead after only 20 minutes, and despite a spirited fightback by Bargod they won 6-3.
Goals from Peter Almond, John Curran and Daniel Davies put Emlyn in control, but Rangers hit back when Rhydian Davies took advantage of a defensive slip.
Huw Jones slotted home a penalty after Dan Davies had been bundled over in the box, but Bargod then replied again when Dan Evans netted from another corner.
Jake Harries, however, netted to make the score 5-2 at the break. Shaun Leonard turned sharply in the box to reduce the arrears, but it was the Reds who had the final say when Scott Lote-Williams linked with substitute Dion Davies to score.
