Llanuwchllyn hit by second-half blitz

LLANUWCHLLYN were beaten by a clinical Caersws side on Saturday as the visitors underlined their promotion credentials.

From the opening stages, Caersws looked every bit a team challenging near the top of the table. Their pace and movement in attack caused problems throughout, and they created a number of early chances with their slick passing and movement around the penalty area.

The visitors made the breakthrough after just five minutes when a cornerby Ashley Harries evaded goalkeeper Rob Dascalu and ended up beneath the crossbar and in the net.

Caersws continued to threaten and doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark after Llanuwchllyn failed to clear their lines, allowing Iwan Smout to fire home.

To their credit, the hosts responded superbly. Just three minutes after falling 2-0 behind, James Davies capitalised on a mistake by the Caersws goalkeeper to halve the deficit.

Davies struck again five minutes later, this time finishing confidently from an Ilan Hughes cross to level the scores.

At 2-2, Llanuwchllyn had restored parity and headed into the break with renewed belief.

However, the second half belonged to the visitors. Caersws regained the lead five minutes after the restart through Smout and Jamie Morris added a fourth on the hour mark as their quality in the final third began to tell.

Llanuwchllyn battled hard to find a route back into the game, but Caersws remained in control and sealed all three points with a fifth goal five minutes from time by Tommy Rowlands.

While the final score was disappointing for the home side, the match highlighted the need to maintain concentration and performance levels for the full 90 minutes.

Llanuwchllyn now face another stern challenge on Saturday when they travel to Guilsfield.
