Llanuwchllyn Reserves 4 Cefn Druids 1

LLANUWCHLLYN Reserves produced a battling display to overcome Cefn Druids 4-1 at Maes Tegid and continue their strong start to the season in Friday evening’s North East Wales Trophy league phase clash.

One of Wales' oldest clubs arrived with a youthful, energetic side determined to play attacking football from the outset, forcing the hosts to compete fiercely for every ball.

Llanuwchllyn made the breakthrough after 10 minutes when Einion Edwards' left-footed free-kick evaded everyone in the penalty area and flew straight into the net to make it 1-0.

The visitors responded well and were back on level terms within 15 minutes after a defensive mistake allowed Druids to capitalise. Cefn Druids then enjoyed a spell of pressure, pushing forward in search of a second goal, but the home side stood firm.

Just before the break, Llanuwchllyn regained the lead in fortunate fashion. A high ball into the box caused problems for the Druids goalkeeper, who was unable to gather cleanly on the line, allowing the hosts to go in 2-1 ahead at half-time.

Although in front, Llanuwchllyn knew they needed to show greater composure in possession after the interval, and they responded superbly.

Cefn Druids pressed hard throughout the second half, but the home side repeatedly matched them and looked increasingly dangerous on the counter-attack.

The decisive third goal arrived when Edwards grabbed his second of the evening, powering home a header from a well-delivered Lewis Roberts corner.

With 10 minutes remaining, Jamie Harding sealed an impressive victory with his first goal for the club. Matt Thorp's superb through-ball split the defence, and Harding kept his composure before drilling a right-footed finish into the bottom corner.

The only disappointment for Llanuwchllyn was a late injury to Lewis Roberts, who was forced off after suffering a painful knock to his shin.

It was an excellent result and another strong second-half performance from Llanuwchllyn, who now turn their attention to Saturday’s NEWFA Reserves Cup clash against Llay Welfare at the Meritor Gym Arena.
