PENRHYNCOCH manager Gari Lewis is looking for his side to end their year on a high when they welcome Ceredigion rivals Aberaeron to Cae Baker on Boxing Day (ko 2.30pm).

The Roosters showed their never-say-die attitude after salvaging a 2-2 draw with Welshpool at Cae Baker last weekend to maintain their unbeaten record in the Spar Mid Wales League division one.

Playing their first league game in several weeks, the Roosters looked to be heading for defeat when trailing 2-0 to the Lilywhites last Saturday.

But they hit back late on with goals from Jonathan Evans and Arron Lemon to earn a share of the spoils.

The result lifted them up to second spot, one point adrift of leaders Llanrhaeadr - but with three games in hand.

Player boss Gari Lewis admitted it had been tough going in testing conditions, with the wind and rain, but again praised the resilience of his side.

"It was tough going, the conditions were horrendous, and I was quite impressed with Welshpool, who have been a bit of a bogey side for us," he said.

"We drew with them twice last year, they frustrate us and are dangerous on the counter attack, and we were not quite at our best on Saturday.

"With Owain James and Aiden Nyhus both missing, we had to change things around, while also had four or five lads feeling under the weather with a virus.

"So, in the circumstances, playing up the slope and into the wind in the second half, it was a wonderful comeback. A lot of teams would have thrown in the towel, but not us. There is a lot of belief in the side, and we were the only side likely to win it in the end.

"A lot of credit must go to the substitutes Josh Shaw and Nathan Warren who made a big difference once they came on.

"We are disappointed not to have won, as we look to win every game, but the important thing is that we are still the only unbeaten side in the league, and a lot of good things came out of the way we fought back."

The Roosters had chances to have won it in the end, but would have been happy enough with the point, that keeps them well placed in the title chase.

Their derby against Alan Foligno’s Aberaeron side promises to be another testing clash for the title chasers.

Lemon now misses the festive period to return to his native Northern Ireland to further reduce the numbers, but Lewis is looking to bring in a new signing.

Aberaeron saw their match at Machynlleth abandoned after 55 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch last weekend, with Foligno’s men leading 2-1.

They are looking to move up to mid-table in division one, with games in hand, and the Roosters will be fully aware that they are a very capable side at full strength.
