LAMPETER Town powered into the third round of the CWFA Senior Cup with an emphatic 7-3 victory over Tywyn Bryncrug on Saturday.

Despite missing an early penalty, the hosts dominated the opening period and were rewarded with five first-half goals.

Jason Jones and Gethin Williams-Evans both struck twice, while Riley Lovell also found the net to put Lampeter firmly in control. James Owen pulled one back for Tywyn before the break, but the visitors still faced an uphill task.

Tywyn made a bright start to the second half when David Jenkins reduced the deficit to 5-2, but Rhodri Morgan restored Lampeter’s four-goal cushion on the hour mark.

Credit to the visitors, who continued to battle and grabbed a third through Aaron Rodgers five minutes later. However, any hopes of a comeback were extinguished when Llyr Jones added Lampeter’s seventh in the closing stages.

Tregaron Turfs also booked their place in the next round with a comfortable 3-1 win over Dyffryn Banw. Justin Davies, Melfyn Davies and Rhun Garner were all on target for the hosts, who could easily have won by a greater margin after creating numerous chances. Llion Smith netted a late consolation for the visitors.

Goals from player-manager Dafydd Carruthers and Ryan Biggs earned Llanidloes Town a 2-1 win at Llanfyllin Town. The hosts had led at half-time thanks to Morgan Hodgkiss’ 36th-minute opener, but Llanidloes responded strongly after the interval to turn the tie around.

Llanilar were edged out 4-3 by Rhayader Town in a thrilling contest between two youthful sides committed to playing attractive football.

Steffan Gillies gave Llanilar an early lead, but a brace from Rae Lewis turned the tie in Rhayader’s favour before half-time. Euros Lloyd levelled shortly after the restart, only for Oscar Davies to strike the decisive goal 20 minutes from time.

Machynlleth’s cup run came to an end with a heavy 4-1 defeat at Welshpool Town. Luke Thomas opened the scoring after 26 minutes before the visitors suffered a major setback when Ryan Jones was sent off after receiving a second yellow card five minutes later.

Ethan Kinsey doubled Welshpool’s lead before the interval and went on to complete a hat-trick in the second half. Alfie Westwood scored a late consolation for Machynlleth.

St Dogmaels swept aside local rivals Maesglas with an impressive 6-0 victory. Louis Harding set the tone with goals either side of half-time before Luke Jones added a quickfire double. Harding completed his hat-trick and Trystan Owens rounded off an outstanding team display with a sixth goal late on.

Llechryd also progressed with a convincing 4-1 win at Llandrindod Wells, despite falling behind to an early strike from Robert Nicholls. Gwion Howell scored twice to give the visitors the advantage before the break, while Daniel Davies and Matthew Storer added further goals in the second half to seal victory.
