Lampeter Ladies 0 Tregaron Turfs Ladies 2

Central Wales Women's League

TREGARON Turfs Ladies had to dig deep for their second victory of the season as they overcame a spirited Lampeter Ladies side on Sunday.

Having opened their campaign with an emphatic 9-1 victory over Llanidloes Town Ladies, the Turfs faced a sterner test at Lampeter but showed their resilience to claim all three points and remain in touch with leaders Guilsfield at the top of the table.

New signing Jess Baker, who announced her arrival with a hat-trick against Llanidloes, continued her fine form by scoring both goals. She opened the scoring three minutes before half-time when she rose highest to head home an Alaw Williams corner.

Baker then wrapped up the points late in the game, firing into the corner of the net to take her tally to five goals in just two league matches.

The scoreline could have been much more emphatic. Tregaron dominated long spells and repeatedly threatened the Lampeter goal, only to be frustrated by an outstanding display from goalkeeper Kate Harrison.

When Harrison was beaten, Lampeter's defenders came to the rescue, twice clearing efforts off the line to keep their side in contention.

The visitors also found the woodwork on three occasions, with Baker, Karen Bulman and Lucy Lloyd all denied by the frame of the goal as Tregaron pushed for a more comfortable advantage.

At the other end, goalkeeper Vikki Oakes enjoyed a quiet afternoon and was even able to leave her goalkeeping duties for the final 15 minutes, with Donia Jones taking over between the posts.

Oakes' sporting day was far from over, however. After the final whistle she made her way across to the neighbouring rugby pitch, where she went on to score a try for Lampeter Rugby.
