BARMOUTH & Dyffryn United booked their place in the next round of the FAW Welsh Cup after edging past Penrhyndeudraeth 1-0 in a closely contested tie at Wern Mynach on Saturday.

The decisive moment arrived on the stroke of half-time when talented teenager Dewey Wright capitalised on a defensive error to race clear on goal. Keeping his composure, Wright calmly slotted the ball beyond goalkeeper Ellis Halpine to send the Magpies through to the next round.

Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs bowed out despite making a flying start in a thrilling 3-2 defeat to Llay Welfare at the Deeside Stadium.

The visitors stormed into a two-goal lead inside the opening half hour thanks to strikes from veteran Ceri Roberts and 19-year-old Mabon Owen. However, Ellis pulled a goal back in first-half stoppage time to give Llay renewed belief heading into the interval.

The hosts completed their comeback shortly after the restart when Scott Swords levelled the scores, before Morgan Fricker struck five minutes from time to seal victory and end Blaenau's cup run.

Elsewhere, goals from Lee Stokes, Kai Davies, Joshua Grimshaw and Charles Lloyd earned Mochdre Sports a convincing 4-1 victory at Machynlleth. Alfie Westwood netted the hosts' consolation goal.

Tywyn Bryncrug also exited the competition after suffering a narrow 1-0 home defeat to Prestatyn Town, with Connor Davies scoring the only goal of the game.
