CEREDIGION’s athletes produced some very strong performances to return with a haul of medals at the Dyfed Secondary Schools Athletics Championships, held at the Carmarthen athletics track.

The top finishers from the four area championships for Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Llanelli were in action and several Dyfed Schools records were broken.

They included Aberaeron’s Lily Church, who set a new record in the Year Eight Girls’ high jump with a leap of 1.53 metres. The Carmarthen Harrier also won gold in the javelin with a throw of 21.56m, and finished second in the 75m hurdles.

Penweddig duo Lisa Cowdy and Sioned Wallwork both won gold medals in the Junior Girls’ Year Nine competitions, with Lisa winning both the 100m and 200m finals, and Sioned winning the 800m final.The Dyfed Athletics champions and medalists from Ceredigion’s Schools were:

Year Seven Boys: Jac Hockenhull of Ysgol Henry Richard, Tregaron won silver in the 800m final with 2.30.1; Gruffudd Morgan of Aberaeron won silver in the 75m hurdles with 14.6m; Owen Rowcliffe of Bro Pedr won gold in the high jump with 1.43m; James Whitney of Penweddig won bronze in the high jump with 1.30m; Dafydd Jones of Bro Pedr won bronze in the long jump with 4.16m; Cai Ifans of Cardigan won gold in the Shot Putt with 9.10m; and Saul McGrath of Emlyn won the bronze in the Shot Putt with 8.77m.

Year Eight Boys: Rhys McGrath of Emlyn won bronze in the 80m hurdles in 15.2; Bryn Jones of Bro Pedr won gold in the 200m in 26.2; Dernj Cairns-Howarth of Penglais won bronze in the 800m final in 2.23.9; Steffan Thomas of Dyffryn Teifi won bronze in the 1500m in 5.26.5; Bryn Jones of Bro Pedr won gold in the 300m final in 41.4; Kuba Borzyn of Penglais won gold in the high jump in 1.60m; George Thurston of Penglais gold in the long jump in 5.06m; and Kieran Jenkins of Aberaeron silver in the Javelin with 30.67m.

Year Nine Boys: Tim Glennie of Aberteifi won bronze in the 1500m final in 4.58.8; Dion Ellis-Clark of Penweddig won bronze in the Triple Jump in 10.13m; Craig Morris of Cardigan won gold in the Shot Putt with 11.24m; Trystan James of Aberaeron bronze in Shott Putt 10.89m.

Middle Boys: Tomos Willoughby of Bro Pedr won the bronze in the 400m in 56.2; Joe Worrall of Emlyn won the gold in the Shott Putt in 13.00m; Joe Worral of Emlyn won the gold in the Discus in 45.42m.

Senior Boys: Sion Lewis of Aberaeron won bronze in the 400m in 60.8; Ryan Jenkins of Aberaeron won gold in the 800m in 2.11.4; Sion Lewis of Aberaeron won silver in the 800m in 2.14.1; Ryan Jenkins of Aberaeron won gold in the 1500m in 4.22.0; Sion Lewis of Aberaeron won silver in the 1500m in 4.33.5; Ryan Jenkins of Aberaeron won gold in the 3000m in 9.25.4; Sion Lewis of Aberaeron won silver in the 3000m in 9.52.7; Llyr Ap Einion of Penweddig won the bronze in the 3000m in 10.19.3; Sam Bleach of Emlyn won gold in the Javelin in 43.08m.

Year Seven Girls: Emma Adams of Aberaeron won silver in the 100m in 14.7; Gwawr Davies of Tregaron won silver in the 800m in 2.46.7; Emma Adams of Aberaeron won silver in the 70m hurdles 12.8; Fraya Bransden of Aberaeron won silver in the Shott 7.59m; Meleri Hopkins of Aberaeron won silver in high jump 1.25m.

Year Eight Girls: Ellie Tromans of Dyffryn Teifi won silver in the 300m in 45.7; Beca Roberts of Bro Pedr won silver in the 800m in 2.36.1; Ellie Tromans of Dyffryn Teifi won gold in the 200m final in 29.0; Lili Church of Aberaeron won silver in the 75m hurdles in 13.3; Lili Church of Aberaeron won gold in the high jump in 1.53m; Beca Roberts of Bro Pedr won gold in the long jump in 4.57m; Lili Church of Aberaeron won gold in Javelin 21.56m.
