Local rider Gruff Lewis took the first sprint of Stage Four of the Tour of Britain, for his first three points in the competition.

He edged ahead of sprint leader Jake Scott on the run into Borth.

Lewis is part of a breakaway group that made an early move at the start of today’s Stage Four of the Tour of Britain.

Starting in Aberaeron at 10.30am, the stage will see the cyclists take on spectacular scenery as they head 130 miles north, finishing later that day atop the Great Orme in Llandudno

Local favourite Lewis was part of the breakaway that built up a six- minute lead riding into Aberystwyth.

Representing team Ribble- Weldtite, pro cyclist Lewis, owner of Caffi Gruff in Talybont, surged to the front of the six-strong group as they whizzed through the town centre, drawing huge cheers from the crowds.

Acknowledging the support at every opportunity, the 33-year-old and the other early pacesetters were nearly in Bow Street as the pelaton climbed up Penglais Hill on their way out of town.

The breakaway group is currently heading out of Borth.
