YSGOL y Preseli’s talented athletics teams produced some excellent results at the NASUWT Dyfed Schools Athletics Cup, held at Carmarthen last Wednesday.
Just four days after the Dyfed Secondary Schools Athletics Championships, the Schools District’s NASUWT Cup Final match headed to the Carmarthen Leisure Centre Athletics Track in Johnstown.
Over the past month, the areas of Brianne, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Llanelli had each hosted an area qualifier, with the top two teams in each of the four age groups going on to compete for places at the Welsh Schools NASUWT Cymru Wales Cup and Plate Finals in Brecon.
Representing Pembrokeshire, Preseli’s years seven and eight junior girls’ team came first, and the years seven and eight junior boys were second, with the years nine 10 girls and boys, both taking fifth.
Preseli’s years seven and eight boys and girls teams go on to compete at the Welsh Schools Cup final at Brecon on 11 July.
There were also strong performances for Ceredigion, as Aberaeron took third in the middle boys, and seventh in the junior girls, junior boys and middle girls.
Bro Pedr, Lampeter finished third in the middle boys, and were sixth in the junior boys; whilst Penglais finished sixth in the junior girls; and Henry Richard, Tregaron finished seventh in the middle girls.
The results were: Junior Girls: 1 Y Preseli 75; 2 Queen Elizabeth 73; 3 Bro Myrddin 66; 4 Greenhill 73; 5 Bryngwyn 47; 6 Penglais 44; 7 Aberaeron 40; 8 Y Strade 39.
Junior Boys: 1 Dyffryn Taf 66); 2 Y Preseli 65; 3 Bryngwyn 63; 4 Sir Thomas Picton 62; 5 Dyffryn Aman 54; 6 Bro Pedr 47; 7 Aberaeron 43; 8 Coedcae 42.
Middle Girls: 1 Queen Elizabeth 75; 2 Sir Thomas Picton 73; 3 Aberaeron 66; 4 Bro Dinefwr 64; 5 Y Preseli 60; 6 St John Lloyd 55; 7 Henry Richard 45; 8 Y Strade 39.
Middle Boys: 1 Bro Myrddin 84; 2 Sir Thomas Picton 77; 3 Bro Pedr 67; 4 Maes Y Gwendraeth 66; 5 Y Preseli 61; 6 Bryngwyn 48; 7 Aberaeron 45; 8 Y Strade 31.
The schools of Queen Elizabeth, Bro Myrddin, Dyffryn Taf, Dyffryn Aman, Bro Dinefwr, Maes Y Gwendraeth, STP, Preseli, Greenhill, Penglais, Aberaeron, Bro Pedr, Henry Richard, Bryngwyn, Strade, Coedcae and St John Lloyd were represented at the Dyfed regional final.
