ABERAERON registered their second maximum bonus point win of the campaign with a 69-0 demolition of a depleted Llansawel outfit in Division Three West C last weekend.

Such was their dominance that the game was over as a contest in the first period, and it was only the resilience of the visitors that prevented a higher scoreline. With far tougher encounters on the horizon, it was a case of ensuring that the bonus point success was achieved as soon as possible, and this came within the first half hour as periods of heavy pressure from the home side bore fruit.

In total, there were seven different scorers for the home side in an overall total of nine tries, with hooker Rhydian Harries and centre Ollie Sawyer claiming two apiece. There were also tries for Gethin Hughes, Alistair Severs, Niall Reed, Sion Evans, Owain Wozencraft, Kristian Jones and Dan Lewis, with the kicking duties being shared between Evans and Jason Freeman.

Aaron Lewis, who despite not crossing the whitewash, was prominent throughout the afternoon, and deserved the man of the match award.

Whilst the prospects for Aberaeron’s season look very positive, the case for Llansawel looks far from secure, which epitomises the case of several of the lower level clubs this season.Nevertheless the Seagulls need to ensure that they maintain focus, with the aim being to secure a return to a higher level at the first opportunity.Meanwhile Lampeter came strong in the second half as they registered an excellent 29-8 bonus point win at home to New Dock Stars last weekend. After kick-off was delayed by 10 minutes due to a fire in the town, the wet pitch and strong wind favoured the away side in the first half.New Dock went ahead after 10 minutes, with a penalty goal, given for offside, and there was a hint of ring rustiness in a Lampeter side that seemed to have more of a semblance of first choice players, unlike recent weeks. On the half hour Dock went further ahead with a try from Ian Jones, following a line out and driving maul, with the conversion missed. Lampeter hit back just before half time, when possession was gained on halfway, and fullback Rhys Douglas bulldozed his way to a converted try under the posts. Then, 10 minutes into the second period, Lampeter went in front, courtesy of a Rhys Douglas penalty goal. Both sides cancelled each other out in a dour 15 minutes, until a clever inter-change of passing saw home captain Ceri Thomas touch down under the goal posts. Five minutes later, Luke Evans scored in the right corner, with good support provided by Rhys Douglas. Lampeter chased the fourth try for a bonus point, and in injury time fly half Emyr Richards achieved just that with a try in the right corner, having handed off the threat of three tackles. From the touchline Rhys Douglas again converted.
