ABERAERON slipped to a 13-6 defeat on a wild and windy Parc Drefach, and once again there was scant reward for a brave and gallant display with only a losing bonus point to show at the final whistle.
A combination of conceding a sucker punch in the first minute and a fortuitous score in the second half put paid to an opportunity for a second success of the season.
It was the worst possible start for the Seagulls, fumbling a loose ball and allowing the visitors the early advantage.
It was very much nip and tuck from there on and with the elements in the home side’s favour they slowly clawed their way back with two long range penalties from Rhodri Jenkins.
Another attempt from the outside half following a yellow card offence struck the upright and Aberaeron finished the half with a slim single point advantage.
That was overturned early in the second period when the visitors gained a second try, although the referee’s
interpretation of the advantage rule was questionable to say the least.
Llandeilo further increased the margin with a long range penalty of their own, and the homesters were further disadvantaged losing firstly captain Aaron Lewis and then scrum half Rory Edwards to leg injuries.
Llandeilo took full advantage of the strong wind to relieve any pressure that Aberaeron were able create and threatened to the home try line late in the game, only to be thwarted by some dour defending and the game petered out with the visitors continuing their climb up the table with only a single point reward for the hosts.
A gallant performance, not for the first time this season, with another tough test away to Tumble next Saturday.
