CALLS have been made for crash barriers to be installed on a “dangerous” stretch of road near Aberystwyth after a van went crashing down a steep slope.

Police were called after the van left the B4572 between Waunfawr and Clarach at around 8.30am on Friday, 4 May.

The occupants had left the vehicle and it was removed from the scene by officers.

Local councillor Paul Hinge said Ceredigion County Council should take action and provide crash barriers at the bends, where there have been a number of incidents.

He said: “Yet another vehicle has left the B4572 Waunfawr to Clarach road, just above the S bend.

“Luckily a telephone pole, which it snapped, prevented it from ploughing further down the bank.

“This is the third such incident in the last two years.

“Does it need a fatality before the council acts and provides much needed crash barriers along this dangerous stretch of road?”

A BT pole was damaged during the incident.
