A PWLLHELI fireman has been recognised for his 41 years of service.

The crew in Pwllheli presented the station’s watch manager, Mike Evans, with a slate plaque to mark and celebrate his 41 years’ service to his local station.

Mike, 58, started off at the station when he was 17 years old and has worked himself up the ranks to being the station’s watch manager for the last 15 years.

Mike said he has no plans to retire at the moment and, whilst he has a good level of fitness, will carry on as the station watch manager.

When asked if there were any memorable call-outs during his service, Mike said: “There certainly have been and a few of the ones that come to mind are the Woolworths store fire at Pwllheli, the fire at the West End Hotel, the Cooke’s explosives incident at Penrhyndeudraeth and being called to Butlins when their Boomerang ride got stuck in the air – just to name a few.”

Mike went on to say: “I’m grateful to the Pwllheli lads for this presentation and it means a lot to me that they have marked this special occasion in my long service to the fire service.”
