POLICE have arrested a fourth man following a serious early morning street attack in Aberystwyth which left a student critically ill.

Police had originally arrested three men, aged 25, 23 and 20, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

But they have now arrested a fourth man, aged 19, on suspicion of the same offence.

All four men are being held in custody.

Police have also appealed for anyone who helped provide first aid to Ifan Richards Owens before emergency services arrived to come forward.

They also still want anyone with any information or camera footage to get in touch as soon as possible.

Ifan, a 19-year-old criminology student at Aberystwyth University, was attacked and left unconscious at the bottom of High Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was described as being in a critical condition this week at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

DCI Anthony Evans said: “We are issuing a fresh appeal for witnesses to the assault on Ifan Richards Owens, aged 19, which occurred on High Street, Aberystwyth, at around 2.20am on Sunday, 14 January.

“In particular we would like to speak to anyone who gave first aid to Mr Owens before emergency services arrived.

“Mr Owens remains in hospital in a critical condition.”
