A PAEDOPHILE has been jailed for historic offences of sexually assaulting a girl under 10 years of age.

On Wednesday, 6 June, 43-year-old Jason Mark Hughes from Caernarfon was jailed for three and a half years at Mold Crown Court for two counts of sexual assault on a girl under 10 committed over 20 years ago in the ‘south Gwynedd area’.

Following the sentence, investigating officer, DC Cefyn Roberts at Caernarfon CID, said: “This was an appalling abuse of trust by a family friend on a very young and vulnerable girl.

“I would like to acknowledge the victim for her courage and strength in reporting the assaults and her determination and support throughout the investigation.

“I welcome today’s sentence and hope it provides his victim, and the community, with reassurance that North Wales Police will robustly pursue offenders and ensure they face justice regardless of when the offences took place.”
