A MACHYNLLETH businessman who tricked elderly and vulnerable people out of almost £10,000 has been jailed for eight months.

Dylan John Edwards, aged 26, admitted seven offences of fraud by taking payments for work he had no intention of carrying out.

Edwards, of Min-y-ddôl, Llanwrin, carried on taking deposits even after he had been spoken to by police officers investigating a number of complaints.

Robin Rouch, prosecuting, told Swansea Crown Court how Edwards had worked for Everest windows before setting up Classic Home Improvements.

Initially he had an agreement with Sky Windows Cymru Ltd who installed windows on behalf of Classic. But the relationship ran into difficulties and on 25 January, 2013, Sky told Edwards they would no longer work for him.

Mr Rouch said there had already been complaints about Classic, but from January 25 onwards, Edwards’ behaviour became criminal as he had no real intention of doing the work and did not even have a supplier.

He took £3,690 from a 79-year-old, £1,000 from an 82-year-old, and £1,600 and £750 from two other women before being arrested by police.

However, he later took £600 and then a further £1,900 from another woman, knowing that he was under investigation.
