Police say they have seen an increase in 4x4 vehicles, quad bikes and motorcycles in the Elan Valley in recent weeks.

Officers have warned: “This a Site of Special Scientific Interest (S.S.S.I) area with many ground nesting birds at this time of the year.

“If you are member of these groups, you are welcome to use the green lanes and byways responsibly.

“What is not tolerated are drivers not adhering to the laws of the permitted byways, causing damage to common land and rivers or showing disregard to the landscape of our community.

“Police are investigating reports of criminal damage at the Rhayader Golf course and common land at Pont yr Elan area and looking to take legal action against those involved.”
