Six properties in north Powys have been flooded by Storm Barra.

Mid and West Wales Fire Service responded to three internal flooding incidents in the Llanidloes area this morning (8 December), after Storm Barra battered mid Wales overnight.

At 6.15am, crews from Llanidloes attended a flooding incident in Victoria Avenue, Llanidloes, after receiving reports water was entering a property. Firefighters pumped water from the property and unblocked nearby culverts.

At 7.18am crews from Llanidloes and Rhayader were mobilised to the Dolgwenith area of Llanidloes following reports of floodwater entering five properties. The crews were involved in unblocking culverts.

Llanidloes firefighters were also called to the Caegwyn area, to pump water from an outbuilding, at 9.28am.

In Ceredigion, the local authority said they are “not aware of any significant flooding impacts”. But they are “aware of flood damage to the prom in Aberystwyth and at Borth/Ynyslas and that an overtopping occurred in Aberaeron”.

A spokesperson for Ceredigion County Council said: “We are aware of flood damage to the prom in Aberystwyth and at Borth/Ynyslas, and that overtopping also occurred in Aberaeron, and that a number of fallen trees were attended to.

“We are not aware of any significant flooding impacts.

“Officers are out today assessing the damage, but we won’t be able to undertake much clearance or repair work until tomorrow due to ongoing high tides and weather warnings.”
