Madam,
I’m not disagreeing with the school rules regarding uniforms.
I do understand that Penglais school has recently had an unsatisfactory report by the authorities and that new guidelines have been put in place plus a new headmistress has been appointed and change was inevitable.
Last July new pupils had a two-day transition course. The new year started on 5 September and we all know that many new pupils were put on detention.
If detention wasn’t given out to pupils and a note was given to pupils for their parents this situation would have been avoided, along with the bad media publicity.
But more importantly it would have avoided creating distressed new pupils.
Many parents entrust their children to Penglais school and I feel that this trust was damaged by their action.
What would be more constructive would be for the school to have given new pupils one month’s grace and parents informed of any shortfall.
Yours etc,
Ray Blackburne, Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
