ONE of the main routes into Aberystwyth has been closed this morning, police have said.

The A44 between Llangurig and Aberystwyth was closed at around 8.40am "due to heavy snowfall" in the north of Ceredigion, Dyfed-Powys Police said.

The road east of Ponterwyd saw "poor visibility and treacherous conditions" this morning, leading to the road closure.

Residents are being advised by Ceredigion council not to travel today "unless necessary".

All schools in the county are closed along with day care centres today and tomorrow.

Waste collection services have also been suspended.
