WI
PRESIDENT Eleanor Evans welcomed everyone to the April meeting. Last month’s minutes were agreed, then all business, correspondence and matters rising were dealt with. Two teams had been entered for the book quiz held in March; the team reading the English book tied first place but lost by one point in the tie-breaker. There were two resolutions to be voted on: firstly, Carol Grinszpan presented the report on appropri-ate care for people in hospital with dementia, and secondly, Jacqui Thomas outlined the aspects of food waste, passing surplus food to charities and food banks. Both Carol and Jacqui gave concise comprehensive reports and the members voted for the first resolution by the smallest of margins. The results will be forwarded to the NFWI. The guests for the evening were local residents in the area, namely Elinor ap Gwilym, Liz Owen, Rhodri Jones and Robert Thomas, and they had been invited to join the panel for a session of Any Questions. The varied questions had been submitted by the WI members and the panel gave their personal responses to such questions as to how they thought Aberaeron had changed over the past 20 years, and did they think it would be feasible to open the railway line between Aberystwyth and Carmarthen. The evening was very interesting and thought-provoking, and a vote of thanks was given by Rosemary Lewis. There was no competition this month but Mary Crane won the raffle.
