Aberystwyth’s annual lantern parade and Christmas lights switch-on will go ahead this year, organisers have confirmed.

Cancelled last year because of Covid-19, Menter Aberystwyth have confirmed that a lantern parade will take place on Saturday, 4 December, from St Michael’s Church to Sgwar Owain Glyndwr from 5pm.

The Christmas lights are expected to be turned on at around 5.30pm.

Menter Aberystwyth say that the Christmas market will return to Baker Street, but are still awaiting confirmation on how many stalls.

There will also be entertainment throughout the evening on Baker Street.

Free lantern making workshops are to be held on 13 and 27 November in St Michael’s between 10am to 12pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

To get into the spirit, a window treasure hunt has been organised around town until 26 November, with Nutcrackers scattered around 15 shops in town.

A Christmas window competition will also be running with shops who want to be involved asked to contact Menter Aberystwyth.

Judging of the Christmas window competition will take place on 1 December with the winner being announced on Saturday night.
