THIRTY jobs will be created in Aberystwyth when a new Poundworld store opens later this month.

The discount retailer confirmed to the Cambrian News that it will take over the former Brantano shoe store on the Ystwyth Retail Park on Park Avenue in April - although no official opening date has been set.

Poundworld, a rival to Poundland which has a store on Great Darkgate Street, has been looking at Aberystwyth as a destination for one of its stores for over a year.

The company instructed agents to find a suitable empty store last year as it plans to open 60 stores in the UK over the next two years to add to its 300 plus store portfolio.

Brantano closed last month after selling off its stock. The company called in administrators in January and continued trading while a buyer was sought.

All former Brantano staff will be “given the opportunity to apply for a role at the new Poundworld store” in an effort to “try to help out former staff” of the chain.
