LOCAL business owners have met with the future potential leaders of their industries.

Companies from the hospitality and leisure industries came together recently with learners from Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor and local schools for a ‘Meet the Employer’ event at the college’s Bwyty’r Gader.

Approximately 160 students and pupils attended the event which was organised by Busnes@LlandrilloMenai, Grwp Llandrillo Menai’s business support team, and staff from Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor.

For the employers this was an opportunity to recruit young people for permanent and seasonal part-time roles and talk about career opportunities in the sector.

Businesses attending included Ffestiniog and Talyllyn Railways, Dylan’s, Harlech Frozen Food Services, Centre for Alternative Technologies, Seren Cyf, Plas Tagarth, Gwernan Hotel, Castle Cottage Hotel, Llechwedd Slate Caverns, Min y Môr Hotel and Zinc Abersoch.

Crofton Davey, from Harlech Frozen Foods said: “This event has enabled us to engage with the college, students and pupils, not only to raise awareness of our company but to promote what the food and drinks industry has to offer, in terms of varied jobs, roles and training opportunities.

“I personally believe that we have a duty and a responsibility to support and engage with young people who could be our future employees by raising the awareness of the sector, and to support the transition between education and business.”
