Aberporth’s Penrallt Hotel is getting ready to open later this summer – but the search is on to discover its history.

The Edwardian mansion is having a complete refurbishment under new owners Ben Vale, Jane Vale and Owen Preece, and is set to open at the end of August.

The property was originally purchased in 1649 by Griffith ap Jenkin ap Thomas of Pantyrhys and remained in the Jenkins family until 1924.

It was reconstructed in 1907 and was a private house before becoming a luxury hotel in the 1970s.

The hotel still boasts stunning Edwardian features including the original wooden panelling and a huge feature stained glass window.

But so far, the new owners have not been able to find old pictures of the house.

“It would be lovely to have a picture of the Penrallt in Edwardian times,” said Jane.

The trio are also interested in any historical anecdotes of the hotel and the people who lived and worked here.

Anyone who has any historical stories or pictures of the hotel can contact events co-ordinator Sue Lewis at [email protected]
