A PETITION calling for the future of Llandysul Leisure Centre to be safeguarded attracted over 150 signatures in a matter of days.

A community group hoping to take over the management of the current leisure centre has said it is still optimistic that it will be able to strike a deal with Ceredigion County Council to enable the village’s swimming pool and leisure centre to be managed as one facility.

The petition calling for the leisure centre to be safeguarded was started by local resident Audrey Keppie, with more than 150 people backing it after three days before it closed.

In starting the petition, Ms Keppie warned that leisure centre users were being affected and had been unable to use the centre as before.

However, local councillor Peter Evans, who is a member of the trustees that run Llandysul swimming pool, said he was hopeful that the trustees’ bid to take over the leisure centre would be successful, despite a lengthy process in agreeing a deal with the county council.

Speaking to the Cambrian News, Cllr Evans said the trustees were still working to agree a deal with Ceredigion council that would see the leisure centre and swimming pool run as a joint facility.

He said that, while it was frustrating that the process was a lengthy one, he said that was necessary to ensure a good deal could be agreed.
