An Aberystwyth pub has been told it could be shut down if improvements aren’t made to improve social distancing.

The Vale of Rheidol on Terrace Road has been served with an improvement notice after visits by officers from Ceredigion County Council’s Public Protection Team and Dyfed-Powys Police.

A spokesperson for Ceredigion council said: “The Premises Improvement Notice, served under the Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions)(No 2) (Wales) Regulations 2020, was issued at the public house on Terrace Road, Aberystwyth, on Wednesday, 7 October.

“The officers during their visit found that insufficient measures have been taken to maintain the required distance between customers, limit close face-to-face interaction, provide information to those on the premises, and collect contact information from all customers.

“The notice requires steps to be taken to ensure that seating is moved and its use controlled to ensure that customers in different extended households are seated at least two metres apart.

“Also, that customers are informed about the restrictions on meeting other persons indoors, that staff should wear face coverings, and that contact information should be collected in addition to any use made of the NHS Covid-19 app, which itself does not record customers’ contact details.

“The public house is required to put the measures into place by Friday, 9 October. Failure to do so may result in a Premises Closure Notice being served, prosecution, or both.”
