A CRICCIETH man has won a top construction award after steering two prestigious building developments to completion.
George Povey, of Anwyl Homes, has been named Site Manager of the Year in the Gwynedd Local Authority Building Control Awards.
The 43-year-old father of three is now in the running for a north Wales award at a glittering occasion at the St David’s Park Hotel, Ewloe, this month.
He received the award from the building inspectors who oversee construction developments in Gwynedd after taking charge of an award-winning site at Abersoch and another project in Felinheli.
In Abersoch, Anwyl built nine luxury three-storey townhouses in the heart of the town while in Pwllheli a four-storey 17-apartment complex is nearing completion.
George, who originally trained as a civil engineer, said: “The award has been for the work on the two developments which have both gone very well, despite the difficult and very wet weather we have had over the winter.
“It’s been a tough battle at times, but we’ve stayed on schedule and everyone who sees the buildings now thinks it looks great so we’re very pleased with it, it’s fantastic.”
Alwynne Morris Jones, from Gwynedd Council, said: “We were pleased to nominate George for this award.
“As a real people person George is held in high esteem and respect by the workers on site – both main contractors and sub-contractors – for his knowledge of the industry and his eagerness that the work be done correctly as well as his mutual respect of the workforce.”
