A number of local businesses have been recognised for their success over the last year at the annual Aber First Awards.

The event was the first live event held by Menter Aberystwyth since December 2019.

The Aber First Awards are an opportunity to recognise the exceptional hard work and contributions displayed by individuals, organisations and businesses in the Aberystwyth area.

In 2019, 130 people came together to the sparkling event at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, and the evening was such a success that Menter Aberystwyth was keen to bring it back to the arts centre again for 2021.

This year, there were nine categories and one overall winner. With the restrictions of Covid-19, a limited number were able to attend the ceremony, but the awards was still a glittering evening with the help of Lowri Steffan of Steilio dots Styling and No21 Flowers.

Hosting the evening, with his usual humour and energy, was Ioan Guile. There was also great entertainment from the talented George Nash during the break.

Awards were handed out to a number of individuals and businesses, while Medina claimed the Overall Award, sponsored by the Cambrian News and EGO.

Speaking about the Overall Award winner, the judges said: “Medina was nominated in two categories and was strong in both.

“We felt that in terms of what Medina presents to the town and the innovation and leadership they have shown over the past eighteen months, they should be recognised and cover more than just the categories.

“Congratulations to Medina, a business that has made great strides through the pandemic, and is an asset to Aberystwyth and Ceredigion.”

Menter Aberystwyth would like to thank its main sponsors, Aberystwyth Town Council and Aberystwyth University; and also to the arts centre for a fantastic venue.

The awards will be back again in 2022.
