Air Cadets have worked hard for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards & Retiremutt (The Dyfed-Powys Retired Police Dogs Fund).
Six cadets from 561 (Ardwyn, Aberystwyth & District) squadron were recently presented with their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s certificates by OC No3 Welsh Wing, Wing Commander Mike Stones.
They were part of a group of eight cadets who have successfully completed their award.
The cadets are already working hard on their next awards. The same week, Cadets, parents, civilian committee members and staff, took part in a 20km sponsored walk, in aid of Retiremutt (Dyfed-Powys Retired Police Dogs Fund).
During a recent PR visit to the squadron by one of the Dog Handlers from Dyfed-Powys Police, one of the cadets asked what happened to the dogs once they were too old or unable to continue as Police Dogs.
It was explained that the dogs were retired and that Retiremutt had been setup to help support the retired dogs, with vets bills and other costs.
The cadets wanted to do something to help this great cause as a way of saying thank you for the service they provide to the community.
While walking the Aberystwyth Promenade section of the sponsored walk, Cadets were joined by PC Greg Smyth and Police Dog Tsar, who was the centre of attention.
Following the sponsored walk, cadets were treated to a BBQ thanks to Tesco Express Aberystwyth, who kindly contributed the food and drink.
