Sea angling

SEVERAL members of Cardigan Sea Angling Club attended their latest club competition on Sunday on Cei Bach near New Quay and had a good day both weather-wise and with numerous fish caught between them.

Will Irvin led the field from the start of the match, bagging five lesser spotted dogfish, whiting and codling to give him a total length of fish of five metres, which secured his first place position.

The runner-up was Kevin Copeland with three metres of dogfish, whiting and the biggest and only bull huss of the day, at 86cm.

In third place was Paul Wood who has made a welcome return to the club, catching a metre of dogfish.

The next club competition is on Saturday, 30 April, fishing from 7pm to 11pm on Newport beach where a good attendance is expected.New members are welcome. Guildhall

THE GUILDHALL will host an event to mark the 10th birthday of a Wales-wide arts festival for the over-50s next month.Menter Aberteifi is inviting people to learn how to ‘Make Your Own Book’ with local craft-maker, artist and exhibitor Carole King as part of this year’s Gwanwyn arts festival, which was set up by Age Cymru in 2006 to give over-50s a chance to get involved in creative arts.Menter Aberteifi has received a Gwanwyn grant to run this bookbinding session for older people over three separate sessions on successive Tuesdays – 3, 10 and 17 May.“This is an excellent opportunity for you to personalise a photo album or address book, or make a unique gift for someone special, under the tuition of a talented local artist,” said Guild-hall spokesperson Ann Stokoe. No previous experience is needed and materials are provided.

Menter Aberteifi is holding its annual general meeting at the guildhall on Wednesday, 15 June.

Menter Aberteifi is a not-for-profit community regeneration group which manages the guild-hall, where it holds events, dances and courses, and looks after the Corn Exchange arts and crafts gallery.It also runs Cardigan’s tourism website www.visitcardigan.com and organises the annual Cardigan River and Food Festival, which, this year, will be held on 6 August.

You can join Menter Aberteifi for as little as £1 per annum and you will be entitled to have your say at the meeting. Refreshments will be served and a warm welcome is extended to all.
