PEOPLE in Llandre packed into Bethlehem chapel to celebrate the life of Dai England at a charity function and raised over £2,000 in support of Wales Air Ambulance.
Dai tragically died of his injuries after a road accident near Capel Dewi last March. His daughter Rhian was also in the car, but survived and has recovered from her injuries and has recently returned to her work as primary school teacher.
Dai was well known locally and was active in the community. He was a community councillor, school governor at Ysgol Rhydypennau, Church Warden at Llanbadarn Fawr, a key member of Aberystwyth Rugby Club and a founder member and Treasurer of Banc Bro community Group, who organised the event in his memory.
In his tribute to Dai, Banc Bro Chairman Wynne Melville Jones described him as one of the most valuable individuals in the community.
He said: “Dai would always be willing to take on responsibility and do work that most of us would why shy away from.
“Without individuals like him the fabric of villages could not be sustained and small communities like Llandre would just become dormitories without any sense of a community spirit."
