A CHARITY that provides support for people who have experienced the sudden death of a young family member or friend is calling on people from North and Mid Wales to volunteer with them.

‘2 Wish Upon a Star’ supports people affected by the sudden and traumatic death of a child or a young adult aged 25 or under.

Based in Llantrisant, South Wales, the charity wants to raise awareness of its work as an all-Wales charity.

Gaynor Ingram is the All Wales volunteer coordinator for the charity.

She said: “2 Wish Upon A Star was established in 2012 by Rhian Mannings MBE, Pride of Britain award winner 2020.

“This was following the sudden deaths of her one-year-old son and her husband.

“We provide immediate and ongoing support for families, individuals and professionals that have sadly faced the sudden death of a child or young adult aged 25 or under.

“We have supported over 900 families and over 3,500 individuals who have experienced such tragedy.”

She added: “My role within the charity is that of a volunteer coordinator.

“I have been employed by 2 Wish since January this year and one of my main priorities is to build a community of volunteers in North and West Wales to help us support the families that need our help there.

“One of our aims is to provide and furnish family rooms at all hospitals in Wales so families who have experienced sudden loss have support.

“The volunteers would be asked to help us furnish and maintain these family rooms.

“Our volunteers also undertake admin tasks and help out at our fundraiser events.”

Gaynor added: “Last year we were thrilled to welcome two members of staff in North Wales to further support our North Wales families.

“We continue to rely heavily on volunteers and are looking forward to recruiting and working with our new volunteers in North and Mid Wales.

“As well as calling on volunteers, we want to raise awareness of what we do.

“Some families who have lost a child don’t know about us or the support we can offer.

“Some families have fundraising events to give back to us, which is lovely.

“The volunteers would be asked to help at these events.

“We want to be seen and known all across Wales.

“We are based in South Wales but are so keen to continue to grow and ensure our families in North and Mid Wales receive the support they deserve.

“We are also looking forward to continuing to provide more opportunities for supporters to become involved in our charity directly supporting our work.”
