Bridge club
THE winners of this month’s round of the Barclay’s Cup were Keith Bellamy and Gill Howells. Ron Jones and Tony Barker were second and Mike Jones and John Valentine were third.
There was another example of a weak two opener in this week’s hands. One pair bid Two Spades (showing six spades and six to ten points) and was immediately raised to Four Spades by responder (having a weak hand and five spades).
Although the contract went one trick off, it prevented a heart game making 11 or 12 tricks being bid by the opposing pair.
Participants of this week’s Wednesday afternoon session were introduced to the team format of the game, taking to it ‘like ducks to water’.
The club meets in the Royal British Legion Hall each Thursday at 6.40pm. Afternoon tuition for beginners and improvers is being held on Wednesdays at 1pm in the Royal British Legion Hall.
For further information on attending either on Wednesday or Thursday, phone Gill Howells on 01239 811718 or email info@ gillhowells.com

The Legion would like to thank the many businesses for their generous support of this event, and also a special thanks to the Memorial Hall Committee for use of their facilities to host the event.
