Tummy time
ABERAERON will host a special care baby support group about ‘tummy time’ in February.
Hywel Dda Health Board is organising the event in Aberaeron, after a successful similar meeting at Withybush Hospital in January saw 10 Pembrokeshire families attend.
The specialist groups, which are only open to families of youngsters who were cared for in Withybush Hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit, were set up to bring together families who had seen babies born at the SCBU in Withybush.
The next meeting will be held in Aberaeron at a date to be agreed. Jennifer Smith, a trainee assistant practitioner at Glangwili’s SCBU, said the group was a good way to bring families who have experienced similar things together.
She said: “It was wonderful that so many could attend this first group meeting. Everyone who attended is a member of a closed Facebook group that has been set up to provide support and guidance during admission and following discharge from Glangwili Hospital’s SCBU.
“We hope that it will form friendships between the parents where they can share stories, tips etc. We chose a closed Facebook group as it is difficult to get regular face to face meetings.
“In the coming year I hope to arrange group meetings by way of baby massage, regular tummy time sessions, Easter parties, summer picnics or a Christmas party.”

WI
THE February meeting of the WI was held in the British Legion Hall, and president Neris Lloyd welcomed 32 members, and three guests - Sylvia and Robin Henson, and Enid Jenkins.
All the business matters were discussed, including the newsletter, ideas for our annual trip and for our charity to support this year were also discussed.
Neris introduced our speaker Gwawr Davies, who comes from Llandysul but now lives here in Aberaeron. She has set up her own business, Brocera Driftwood Art, using driftwood collected on beaches locally, making very striking and unusual items such as small picture frames, candle holders etc.
She explained how all her wood is bleached clean and dried, then fireproofed with spray, and she demonstrated a small tree, which could be for Christmas or any festive occasion.
She donated a small frame to be raffled and the lucky winner was Denise Hicks. The vote of thanks was given by Linda Hughes and the competition for an interesting beach souvenir was won by Jackie Swetman.
Next meeting is the Annual St David’s Day celebration, to be held in The Hive with Henry Jones as guest speaker.
