The 10 May meeting opened with the singing of Meirion. Beryl Roberts, president, welcomed all and sundry to the meeting.

The minutes of the April meeting were read and accepted. The winners of the floral arrangement competition were: 1. Liza; 2. Cynthia; 3. Lynda; 4. Kim. Kim also won the raffle.

Last month proved to be a very busy one.

County Darts – Cynthia has reached the final to be played in the autumn.

Various members represented Bala in the Newtown Conference and Spring Council in Penrhyndeudraeth.

Bala WI won the cup for the best planned programme in the county. The quiz team came second with only two points behind the winners.

Beryl Roberts gained the highest individual score in the ten pin bowling in Glanllyn.

Bala WI branch decided to support the following resolution stating that the awareness of mental health issues is as important as that of physical issues.

The organisation of the Wedgewood trip continues. Also, a trip to Calendar Girls is being arranged for 27 October. Next meeting will be Walk and Talk at Gorwelion in June.

Two representatives from Age Cymru, Bethan and Angharad delivered the talk. Based at Caernarfon, they also have establishments in Porthmadog, Blaenau Ffestiniog and Llangefni.

Their role is to advise and help older people with problems, be they financial or otherwise.

It was noted that carers were in demand in this locality and there was difficulty in recruitment.

Theirs was a very informative talk listing all the various helplines available to older people.

Tea and biscuits were served and the winners of the biscuit competition were: 1. Liza; 2. Beryl; 3. Lynda. Val Davies won the raffle prize.
