BARMOUTH WI’s centenary year came to a close on Friday night at the Christmas dinner when the Min y Môr was filled with the rousing sound of the ladies singing a selection of songs (some with actions!) from the last 100 years.
The year has been extremely busy, filled with entertaining speakers, a range of different activities including bingo, scrabble, rambles, darts, bowls, in fact something for everyone to enjoy usually with a very good outcome as our ladies are very good at sports.
The Chatty Crafters have as usual been busy winning competitions by knitting, crochet, sewing, paper craft, designing and making cushions and jewellery, craft work and producing beautiful Christmas decorations all while enjoying social time and a cup of tea.
Crocheting and knitting has produced many items for the Syrian children refugees.
Including 13 blankets, 23 baby sleeping bags, 39 baby hats, 73 baby blankets, 72 baby jumpers, 33 children’s jumpers and lots of mittens and gloves.
These children urgently need our help and this is our ladies’ way of offering a little support.
The ladies also contributed to and visited the huge display of over 20,000 knitted poppies at Bangor Cathedral, which commemorated the 100th anniversary of the 1918 Armistice and remembered the men and women from Wales who died in World War One.
They celebrated the centenary with a special meal in January, a tea party in the summer and an exhibition in September show casing the past 100 years of Barmouth WI.
In November, Jacqui, the president for the past three years, passed the reins over to Mari O’ Rourke.
Now they are looking forward to 2019, and an exciting programme of speakers and events.
Season’s Greetings to everyone from Barmouth WI.
