Choirs
ON Friday evening the Moelwyn Male Voice Choir were in concert at Betws y Coed, conducted by Sylvia Ann Jones.
The evening compère was Gareth Griffiths.
This Saturday evening, the Brythoniaid Choir perform at Glyn y Weddw.
As well as competing in the male voice choirs competition they have also been rehearsing with the ladies Siriol Choir from Bangor and as a result they will be in the mixed choirs competition having well over 100 members on the stage in that event.
Bloom
SATURDAY will be the final day of entering this year’s Blaenau in Bloom competition with the many categories to choose from.
The judging will take place on 4 July and the winners will be presented with their prizes on Sunday afternoon, 28 July, at the St David’s Church Hall.
Angling
THE Cambrian Angling Association wish to remind the fly fishermen and women that this season’s competition for the Emrys Evans Memorial Cup will take place from 8pm till midnight at the Gamallt Lakes this Friday evening.
Fun day
THERE was a good turn out for the recent 1970s fun day which was held at the RWF Club.
There were stalls, fancy dress and dancing along with DJ Chris Evans and the north Wales’ Elvis, Wynne Roberts.
£565.35 was raised towards Specialist Dementia Day Assessment Services which is held twice a week at the local Ganolfan Goffa.
£100 raised by stall holders has been donated to the Fire Service.
Football club
WITH Blaenau Amateurs FC having been promoted to the Welsh Alliance Division 1 this coming season they have to spend considerable amount of money to get the Cae Clyd ground up to the standard needed in this league.
The club has bought new goal posts and there is much more to do such as a new toilet facilities which will also include one for the disabled, then there is the surrounding barriers and seating for the grandstand just to name a few facilities under review.
The club has been given a £2,000 donation from the town council which has been gratefully received and will go towards these mounting costs the club are facing over the coming months.
Bowls
THE bowling club is now fourth in the North Wales League A after their crushing 10-2 win over the league leaders Min y Don. Old Colwyn on Saturday thanks to wins from Adam Hyde, Barry, Martin and Jason Hughes, Stephen, Elwyn, Iwan and Dylan Vaughan Jones and are home to Craig y Don on Saturday and have been drawn at Vardre, Deganwy in the semi final of the Gwynedd Cup.
Dog show
THE annual local dog show is to take place at St David’s Church Hall on 14 July with doors opening at 1pm and the judging will start 30 minutes later.
Derbyn wisg werdd
BYDD Patrick Young, y cerddor a sylfaenydd Cwmni Opera Cymru, yn derbyn y wisg werdd yn Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yn Llanrwst am ei gyfraniad i’r celfyddydau a bu ef a Vivian Parry Williams yn cael eu derbyn i’r Orsedd yno.
G?yl
IT has been announced that this year’s G?yl Car Gwyllt event will be held at Bro Ffestiniog Rugby Club on the weekend of 5 and 6 July where a host of artistes will be taking part.
Sculptor
IT is 50 years since the sculptor and artist has been living and working at the former Rhiw Chapel and over the years his work has been on show all over the world and his latest exhibition is to be seen at the National Gallery, Cardiff until early September.
