HOLY Cross: Mass at 6pm on Saturday with Fr Shaji Punnati.

Football

THE Blaenau Amateurs final two pre-season friendly matches were played last week the first being at Porthmadog on the Wednesday evening where they were beaten 3-1 and this was followed by a 4-1 home win over Towyn/Bryncrug side on Friday evening.

This Saturday the Amateurs open their new Welsh Alliance season with home match against the Clwyd based Llandyrnog United side with a 2.30pm kick off.

Choirs

IT has been a busy time for the Brythoniaid Male Choir, having given their annual concert at Porthmadog, they now aim for the Welsh National Eisteddfod Men’s choir competition which will be held this Saturday.

Some of their members have teamed up with the Bangor based Siriol ladies choir and have entered the Eisteddfod’s Mixed Choir competition under their Llechen Lân name which will be held on Friday evening and best of luck to both choirs.

On the concert front the Moelwyn Choir were on stage at Betws y Coed on Friday evening conducted by Sylvia Ann Jones with accompanist Wenna Francis Jones and the compère was Gareth Griffiths.

Bowls

THE bowling club latest North Wales League match home to Penmaenmawr ended in a 8-4 win thanks to wins from Adam Hyde, Iwan Vaughan and Stephen Jones, Jason and Barry Hughes and Mike Burgoyne and they are at Bangor this Saturday.

Library

THE library hosts a variety of events this month.

Next Tuesday there is Woodland Fairies Crafts from 2pm to 4pm and on the following Tuesday from 2.30pm till 4.30pm, Mantell Gwynedd will have a stall there.

Seaside crafts will be there on Wednesday, 21 August, for an hour starting at 3pm and every Friday from 10am to 1pm.

It will be break time with board games and colouring to relax and all events are free. The library’s book sale will also be available until the end of this month.

Train

AFTER months without a train service, things are back to normal on the Vale of Conwy branch line and last Saturday a special steam train came up the valley line to Blaenau, having departed from Chester, and attracted many train enthusiasts whilst it was here.

Fundraising

A FINE evening of Northern Soul Music was held at the local RWF Comrades Club on 27 July in memory of the late Mike Jennings.

It was enjoyed by all and £692 was raised for the Blind Veterans Hospital at Llandudno.

The club would like to thank the DJs and all who supported the event.

Community wifi

IT has been reported that the community wifi for businesses has been completed.

A training session was held at Plas Tan y Bwlch recently where Cllr Bedwyr Gwilym, the Ffestiniog Town clerk and deputy clerk attended.

Gallery

THE Maenofferen Gallery hosts an arts festival exhibition until next month and admission is free during the library’s opening hours.

Bench

AN application to the town council by the family of the late Caradog and Morfudd Edwards of Gwynfryn, Dolrhedyn, Tanygrisiau to install a bench in their memory at Dolrhedyn, which the family will pay for, has been agreed by the council.

In the meantime the council is to prepare a leaflet for bench applications in memory of loved ones.
