THE first meeting of 2018 was held on Wednesday, 10 January, at Y Ganolfan, Bryncrug when chairperson Gwenfair Pierce, welcomed the members, including new member, Trina Hawkes.

A message of sympathy was expressed to the family of Judy Jones as she had been a supportive member of the group for many years.

Apologies for absence were conveyed on behalf Liz Williams, Gaynor Pugh and Bessie Mitchell.

The chairperson introduced the guest speaker for the evening, Bethan James of Bryncrug, who gave an extremely informative, humorous and educational talk on Welsh Women in history.

The vote of thanks was given to Bethan by Mary Sheffield, the raffle donated by Stella Edridge was won by Janet Jones.

The results of the evening’s competition of ‘An Old Treasured Card or Family Photo’ were first place, Margaret Evans; second place, Pat Chadwick; and third place, Margaret Cordingley.

The refreshment hostesses were Mary I Davies and Freda Jones.

The next meeting will be the very special celebratory 50th Anniversary Buffet to be held on Wednesday, 14 February.
