FOR the last meeting of the 2017/18 season held on Wednesday, 9 May, the Dysynni Ladies met at the Talyllyn Railway Wharf Station at Tywyn where they boarded a specially arranged train up to Nant Gwernol in Abergynolwyn and back.
Despite the rain that started to fall shortly after departure, the scenery was breathtaking and some of the gardens visible from the train had wonderful displays of rhododendrons and azaleas.
On returning to the Wharf Station the members enjoyed a two-course meal prepared by the staff at the Kings Restaurant.
The chairperson, Gwenfair Pierce, addressed the members and conveyed to them the very sad news in the passing of the organisation’s life president, Anna Pateman, which office now passes to the life vice-president, Gwyneth Thomas.
Sentiments of sympathy were requested to be expressed to the family.
The competition winners for the year were announced: Gwenfair Pierce was first with 13 points; Anne Rowlands second with 12 points; Pat Chadwick third with eight points; and Gwyneth Thomas fourth with six points.
The chairperson thanked the staff and volunteers at the station for making everybody feel so welcome, especially ensuring the train was warm and comfortable, also the staff in the restaurant for providing excellent food and service and as her last function as chairperson she thanked our hard working secretary, Pat Chadwick, and assistant secretary, Mary Sheffield, for arranging such a wonderful evening and wished her successor to the chair, Anne Rowlands and her team, well for the forthcoming season.
The first meeting of the 2018/19 season will be held on Wednesday, 12 September at Y Ganolfan, Bryncrug, when a warm welcome will be extended to both old and new members.
