JOAN Yates welcomed members to the July meeting and conducted WI business in the usual style, bringing various forthcoming events to their attention.
She then introduced the speaker for the evening, Michael Hewitt, a lecturer from Coleg Harlech.
Michael said that many adults had been let down by the education system and that these people needed a different approach which he felt could be achieved through the Liberal Arts.
Logic, grammar, rhetoric, arithmetic, music, geometry and astronomy denote the seven branches of knowledge that initiate the young into a life of learning, thus producing a well rounded individual who can think for himself.
Michael was thanked for his informative talk as were Lesley Bay and Doreen New who served the refreshments.
They had a marvellous day out in August.
They visited the Craft Centre in Ruthin before enjoying a delicious lunch in the splendid Ruthin Castle.
In the afternoon they boarded a canal boat and sailed to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct designed by Thomas Telford and William Jessop.
Next meeting, 12 September.
