THE latest community news from Llanidloes.
Tennis club
THE AGM (cancelled earlier because of the weather) has been re-scheduled for 6.30pm, Tuesday, 20 March and will be held at the Garth, Van.
Seed swap
LLANIDLOES community seed swap event will be on Saturday, 17 March at Llani Market, Great Oak Street (outside Great Oak Foods, inside if the weather is bad), from 9am-1pm.
Seed Swap events are free to enter, donations accepted, but not expected.
Bring seeds to swap if you have some spare (they don’t have to be home saved), and take away a variety of seeds to try. You don’t have to bring seeds to attend this event.
There will be expert gardener/ growers at hand to offer advice on seed saving and growing techniques. There are several community gardens close by and this is a great opportunity to visit them and gain some inspiration.
Perhaps you have a favourite variety that you have been growing in the area for years or you need just a few seeds. The seed swap aims to create a way of circulating these seeds between local gardeners, whilst saving some money at the same time. There is lots to know about seed saving, some plants are really easy to save seed from, whereas others need some specialist skill or attention for success. Come and find out more.

Rotary
LLANIDLOES Rotary Club recently launched their brand new venture for 2018, the ‘Llani Rotary 10k (ish)’.
The event, which will take place on Sunday, 6 May, is hosted by Llanidloes Rotary Club in conjunction with the towns outward bound shop, Llani Leisure.
The 10k (ish) circular route runs from Llanidloes High School through Cwmbelan and out towards Glan-y-Nant, before looping back through the town towards the school.
Rotarians will marshal the route throughout and ensure everyone makes it back safely. The club is planning on making the finishing line a welcoming sight, with music, medals and even an ice cream van so spectators and participants can purchase refreshments. Every penny of profit from this event will go straight back to Llanidloes High School, and as a result the Rotary Club is urging pupils to take on the challenge and support their own school.
The distance may seem beyond some, but you can run, walk or crawl, and completing the event is the priority, not the time in which it is completed.
For safety reasons the event is capped at 200 entrants, and anyone interested is advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
Applications can be completed online at www.llanidloes.com/cambrian-mountain-events or in person at Llani Leisure. Llanidloes Rotary Club would like to thank Bradleys Peugeot Llanidloes for sponsoring this event, and for the proactive support form Llanidloes High School’s acting headmaster, school secretary and caretaker.
