The speaker for the evening was well-known local photographer and author, Jean Napier.

She has a passion for the outdoors, and walking in the upland regions of Harlech/Barmouth/Trawsfynydd.

Over many years Jean has documented the historical remains which are to be discovered across these areas, varying from burial chambers (c.3000BC), stone circles (Bronze Age), stones with carvings (possibly Roman) and more latterly but still ancient, the drovers’ routes ranging from Carmarthenshire to London and Essex where cattle and other livestock were moved to markets far from home.

These characters came to life as she described their journeys, where they stayed, what they wore, route markers, and other personnel who accompanied them.

Jean’s slides showed gold mines, steep passes, lakes, grazing land, and wildlife including feral goats.

Following her presentation, they were able to purchase her latest book, a pocket – edition entitled ‘Rhinogydd Ancient Routes and Old Roads!

Jean was warmly thanked for her presentation, following which refreshments were served.

Next meeting: 6 June at 7pm at the Ganolfan.

Speaker: Heidi Wilkes (physiotherapist) on Gardeners’ Muscles!
