Council meeting
FOLLOWING its summer recess, Machynlleth Town Council will be holding its next ordinary monthly meeting at Plas Machynlleth on Monday, 25 September, at 6.30pm.
Formal notice of the meeting will be placed on the council’s notice boards at the front of the town library and in the Plas foyer prior to the meeting.
Civic Society
THE next bi-monthly meeting of the Machynlleth and District Civic Society’s executive committee will be held at the Tabernacle on Thursday, 21 September at 7pm. All members of the society are entitled to attend.
Bowls
MACHYNLLETH twosome Eileen Jones and Welsh international Andrew Fleming became Montgomeryshire County Bowling Association Mixed Pairs champions for the fourth time when, on Monday, 28 August, they overpowered T Gough and C Price of Welshpool by 27-15.
In the semi-finals, the Mach duo held their nerve to beat another Welshpool pair, C Bloom and D Bloom, with a hard-fought 22-19 victory.
And Gough and Price had earlier beaten Aberdyfi’s Sue Mount and Richie Williams in the other semi-final.
Machynlleth and Berriew, recording wins in their most recent fixtures against Carno and Montgomery respectively, and each with one game to play, were neck and neck to be called champions of the Montgomeryshire CBA County Mixed League.
Berriew held a slender one-point advantage after they took 6.5 points from their game with Montgomery while, in their match at Carno, Mach settled for 5 points.
Domino AGM
THE Dyfi Valley Domino League 2017/18 will be holding its annual general meeting at the Machynlleth Bowling Club on Thursday, 19 September, at 7pm. At least one member from participating teams is asked to attend.
Ladies golf
ON 31 August, Rhian Wynn held her Ladies’ Captain Day.
The 18-hole competition for the Bob Lloyd Jones Cup was won by Sue Fishbourne, with Sue Kelly second, and Sheila Edwards and Helen Lewis joint third. The nine-hole competition was won by Jean Preston, with Helen Owen second. Alice Hughes won the putting competition.
The vice-captain thanked Rhian for her generosity in providing all the lovely gifts and the delicious tea.
